About TaxTagger

A small, honest utility: fictional IRS-style tax form names, generated privately in your browser.

What this site is

TaxTagger is a free tax form name generator. It produces realistic-sounding but completely fictional form names — 1040-series, W-series, 1099-series and Schedules — for fiction writing, teaching, software mockups, test data and training materials. The entire tool is static HTML, CSS and JavaScript: no backend, no database, no accounts.

What this site is not

TaxTagger is not a tax product. It does not generate real IRS forms, does not advise which form to file, and nothing it produces can be submitted to any tax authority. The limits box on the tool page states this plainly, and the guides explain how real form naming works so nobody confuses fiction with fact.

Why it is built this way

  • Private by architecture. Everything runs in your browser via crypto.getRandomValues(). There is no server to trust because no server is involved.
  • Free with no catch. No sign-up walls, no usage tiers. A name generator does not need your email address.
  • Honest by default. Generated names are labeled fictional on the page, in the download file and in these guides.

The guides

Alongside the generator, the site publishes short practical guides: how tax forms get their numbers, the formats real forms use, rules for believable mock names and where fictional names come in handy. They explain real naming conventions accurately, without invented statistics or claims.
